The Opportunity
This Big 4's Tax practice are recruiting in their Birmingham office. A constantly changing and increasingly high-profile field, Tax can offer a surprisingly broad range of quality career paths to ambitious people.
Working in the Corporate Tax department at this firm will give you the opportunity to develop relationships with clients as you help manage the amount of corporation tax they need to pay. This involves working with clients to produce complex tax computations and returns for HM Revenue & Customs, giving advice on corporate planning and restructuring projects and finding ways to reduce their effective rate of tax.
Roles and Responsibilities
For each client, working as a member of the client service team to provide corporate tax compliance and advisory services including:
- Being the principal contact with smaller clients on day to day tax matters and working with Managers and more senior members of the team on larger clients
- Liaising with the client service team and with colleagues in other tax disciplines as well as the audit and accounting discipline to provide a co-ordinated service to the client
- Working with specialists to deliver expertise to the market Discussing new tax ideas and developments with clients
- Planning compliance work and managing the process through to submission of tax computations with supervision from Managers
- Supervising the work of junior members of staff / offshore partners, including the preparation of tax computations
- Supervising the work of junior members of staff including tax payment advice plus correspondence with HM Revenue & Customs Reviewing corporation tax computations
- Advising the client on the computational treatment of contentious issues Implementing the firm's advice in submitting returns and negotiating with HM Revenue & Customs Co-ordinating tax payments, loss relief, capital allowances, group relief and other claims
Qualifications and Skills
- Newly qualified (ACA, CA, CTA, ACCA) or equivalent
Experience and Background
- Sound knowledge of UK corporate taxation and / or sound knowledge of accountancy principles, in particular accounting for tax (including deferred taxation and accounts presentation)
- Preferably an awareness of broad international tax issues
- Ability to keep up to date technically
- Social confidence and communications skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Attention to detail, practical approach to problems, client focused and commercial awareness
- Motivated and committed to continuously developing technical, commercial and client relationship skills
- Effective time management, able to remain calm when under pressure and to meet deadlines
